Еще совсем недавно в волчьих стаях, живущих в канадском заповеднике, существовали суровые законы. Альфы, волчья элита, не могли вступать в брак с изгоями - так называемыми омегами. Благодаря волку-омеге Хамфри и волчице-альфе Кейт, дочери вожака, это удалось изменить: теперь никто не может указывать молодым волкам, в кого влюбляться и с кем строить семью. Кейт и Хамфри стали счастливыми родителями троих замечательных щенков - Стинки, Клодетт и Ранта - и готовятся отметить годовщину совместного проживания.
О спокойной жизни приходится забыть, когда Рант, младший щенок, таинственным образом исчезает. Теперь всей семье, как родителям, так и двум оставшимся с ними щенкам, предстоит отправиться в долгое путешествие. Их путь лежит через дикие земли, а сроки поисков ограничены: нужно успеть найти Ранта, пока снег не лег на землю и не мешает вернуться. Впереди не только детей, но и Хамфри с Кейт ждет немало важных открытий, которые во многом повлияют на их жизнь.
